That and it never came out in Europe, so a lot of people there ended up importing it, increasing the price.

Not necessarily.
A "Byte" is the smallest addressable memory location that a processor may access. It is most commonly 8 bits, but may vary based on architecture.
This is why most networking applications prefer to use "octets" or plain "bits" instead of "bytes".

Archaeological museums do not collect things produced ten years ago.

JRPGs are not RPGs. They are "Japanese-style RPGS". It's a historic misnomer. They are not RPGs and have never been.

Dragon Quest type of games have been called RPGs because of their ties with Ultima and WIzardry, even though no roleplaying was involved. Wizardry was borrowing elements from D&D, which is why it was marketed as a computer RPG.

JRPGs came to be knows as Japanese-type RPGs, although they are not actually role-playing games and never were.

JRPG =/= a role-playing game, period.

I've had that happen with me with other cartridge games.

Just like how Game Genies were hex editors, each of metal contacts on the cartridge that slotted into the system would wear down over time.

If it was really bad, it could end up with the system calling the wrong hex value from the cartridge, which would lead anything from loading the wrong map, to bugging out max lives, to revealing all the items in metal gear at the start of the game and as you found them, their image would disappear from your inventory screen.

Odds are when it was loading, it ended up calling the hex value for the event that triggers when you walk out of the shop.
