buy "Essential Kanji" by O'neill and start studying the examples religiously. The real benefit of this book is the compounding it teaches you.


Kanji aren't hard, but knowing how to study them takes a bit of work. Buying an old copy of Heian's Dictionary of Japanese Culture and using all the crazy shit in their as vocab practice is probably the next step.

Seriously, don't waste time learning words. You pick them up fast as shit while practicing your kanji. A couple of good grammar books would serve you better.
