I really really wanted to enjoy it but so much fell short for me. I prefer the first in many ways.

2nd Runner started off the bat so strong with the immensely improved controls. The feeling of slashing through hoards of enemies at lightning speed was amazing. And the first mini boss was great too.

But then it just started to feel like everything else was running counter to the improved controls. It was cool seeing the variety of missions, but having the player go on rails in several of them with a lock on that clearly wasn't built for those types of levels was not fun. Particularly the train level.

What I was most dissapointed by were half the bosses but that's due to the expectations I set. I don't know how to describe it. It felt like there was less freedom with your arsenal to tackle them and there was too much repetition. Sometimes to the point of feeling half way like a platformer boss. The fights with Viola AI and Inhert being the worst offenders for me. Especially the fight gimmicks that came with them. It felt there was only so many times you can hit them and it was in the game's very specific window of saying when you can. And it wasn't hard, it just felt really aggravating and tedious. I guess I was just spoiled by fight with Viola in the first game which felt like a dogfight.

Maybe I'll try it again sometime soon with a fresh mindset.
