I absolutely despise this style of pixel art (that so many people really abuse the fuck out of these days: low contrast, pastel, "flatty," smudgy. People consider this style to be some kind of m"Evolution." Nothing is further from the truth. It just looks messy, gay and uninteresting. I also can't stand indie devs obsession with giving characters "black dot eyes."

It's probabaly because most pixel art is now done by all these art school fags who bring a lot of art school conceits and hangups with the shit they produce. Most pixel art from back in the day wasn't made by oversensitive deviantartlets with art degrees, they were made by people with "lesser" talent and training, and those people actually came up with interesting shit, and their "misuse" of palettes and rigid style only served to add character to the work.

I look at shit like Owl Boy and all I can think is "I probably wouldn't like the artist if I ever met him. I'd probably want to beat the shit out of him."
