Dude, you have no idea just how much of a negative reception MS and the Xbox had in the first couple of years of its life to the gaming forum denizens online back then. It was seen as a menace due to MS's terrible reputation up to that point (commonly known as M$ back then) and Halo was a common punching bag to represent the Xbox, especially among PC Gamers who quickly scoffed at it compared to the more visually diverse landscapes and fast gameplay they were use to along with what they saw as a demographic of casuals who were linked to it (see: the frat dude bro community). I don't care if you want to deny this or not or throw a tantrum, that was the reality of how people perceived it.
