Lunar 2. So much cooler than the budget anime with a terrible art style that they put in the Playstation version.

I love these sort of animated cutscenes. Too bad they are pretty much only on the PC-Engine and Sega CD.

Toned down difficulty to a ridiculous degree. The dungeons, the battle system, the magic, the boss fights. It's a much simplified game overall.

Plus the Sega CD version has amazing pixel-art cutscenes which were replaced by really heavily compressed traditionally animated cel cutscenes in the PSX version. Lunar 1's cutscenes animation just consisted of mouths flapping; Lunar 2's was full-on.

I own both of them. Sega CD version is quite a bit better. The PSX version moves along so quickly that it feels like an abridged version. You don't get to know the characters like you do in the original and after playing the PSX version I understand complaints about the characters and story.

The new art style is really ugly and the sprites, while larger, don't look as cute. Lack of random encounters isn't bad per se, but the dungeons in Lunar 2 were actually quite complicated for a jrpg, and in the PSX version they cut them up so they are just a bunch of hallways.

Also the original Sega CD pixel art cutscenes look better than the anime/cgi ones in the PSX version.

Also the music is worse.

Unlike Lunar SSC, Lunar 2 complete does nothing better than the original. It isn't even cheaper, last I checked. It is the perfect example of an entirely unnecessary remake.

Seriously. Pixel artwork never makes for a large gif as long as you know what you're doing and don't compress anything.

Like, this is over a minute and a half long and it's not even 3 megs.
