We could include a little musical jingle on the between-level screens, that was common in NES games and maybe replace the skulls with a little container of bug spray, which seems to make more sense to me. I thought of having the levels scroll onto the screen but it's probably not doable if you want to keep the score counter design the same.

No stupid five note bass tune during the levels like a lot of early period NES games did though.
