Never played it, but from what I've seen, Tales of Symphonia.
I personally am still partial to Super Castlevania IV, even if it's an early SNES game and there's games that are technically more impressive.

hmm, I don't see it. Looks fine to me, actually has a very tasteful color palette (as opposed to, say, Rondo or Bloodlines, where the color palette seems a bit all over the place at times, IV is more coherent).
But I don't think any Castlevania look bad, anyway. Even Haunted Castle looks great.

These guys were a lot more aggressive on Castlevania IV. I feel like SOTN deliberately makes a lot of enemies very, very passive.

Yes, but he's also more agile on SOTN, he can run, jump higher, etc.
But yeah probably OP should play at the very least Rondo of Blood, and Super Castlevania IV as well. Those games still feel like the belmonts move "like a snail compared to Alucard", but they're probably the classic games with the best controls, and both games' sprites were reused on SOTN.
