Finished System Shock 2 a little while ago so I'm feeling brave enough to take this one on. Any words of wisdom?

Hello /vr/

What actually makes Deus Ex so good and/or well loved? I've been reading a couple of reviews and they have been very vague about what exactly makes the game good. Like, they say something about choices and consequences, but they don't give any concrete examples of the sort of things you can do in game. I'd really appreciate it if someone can give me a concrete example like that. Something I can do ingame that shows the game's apparent freedom.
