The bird "Wren" turning into a giant was also an unused idea that eventually used for Half-Genie Hero, it's always neat to see things from unfinished projects making their way into later instalments.

That sprite sheet by the way, is it reconstructed from old pre-release screenshots, or that recent WayForward lot that contained a shitload of prototypes and source codes?

The lot apparently included Shantae Advance, which they opted to not share because of the upcoming retail release. They'll probably share it post digital-launch though where it can't hurt the game's sales or spoil anything.
