Does anyone else feel like there's no "perfect" Mario game? I love them all, but I feel like they all have things that are missing:

Super Mario Bros - An incredible game and a blast to play, but feels overly simplistic, short and replaying it gets kind of dull.
Lost Levels - Incredible design, genuine challenge without being unfair, but feels similar in that it seems to lack depth
USA - Never been crazy about this but it lacks the sense of control and jumping that makes IMO Mario so great
3 - Has lots of amazing things going for it, but too short levels, too easy, a lot of slow boring levels and can sometimes feel like a slog. This may seem strange to some but I also think it has the least personality of them all
World - Very charming but I always found the level design a bit dull in some parts. This might be my favorite of all however.
Yoshi's Island - Was never really crazy about this one, controlling Yoshi never felt as great as Mario
Mario 64 - I like this game a lot more than most people on 4chan, I think, I still consider it among the best platformers ever, but it feels like it could be better

What do you think? I feel like there hasn't been a single Mario game that reached the fullest potential that a concept like Mario can offer.

I'm feeling somewhat philosophical today.

Why do we enjoy Mario? When I play Super Mario Bros., it's just fun. This is really a question of video game enjoyment in general, but I focus on Mario because it's pretty much all mechanics and level design.

What is fun/enjoyable about the movements, the controls? Why do we get satisfaction from controlling something, jumping over gaps and avoiding obstacles?

The art for Super Mario Bros. Deluxe is amazing. Can't find a lot online though, for some reason.

what are some action adventure games on the NES or SNES, or even N64. Games that you can explore a world but dont have turn--based combat. Sort of like Zelda I guess but I'm looking for more of a world with towns/characters and stuff.
