I did stretch the elements, I just kept the aspect ratio the same, just like the 3DS

I did start with a low resolution source, I did not integer scale (which would be cheating for this example), I went from 714x136 to 1200x229

The 3DS is not changing the aspect ratio, and scaling algorithms have come a long way and can now keep sharp pixels even with weird non-integer scaling.

y'know, maybe if that happened then saturn would last much longer than it originally did
the dreamcast wouldn't release AT LEAST until year 2000, meaning better specs, possible online gaming at launch, two analog sticks and maybe, MAYBE the inclusion of dvd drive
ea and other publishers wouldn't lose as much faith and trust in dreamcast, so a bigger library of titles would be a possibility, too
gamecube titles and multiplats made by sega in 2002 would also be exclusive to their flagship console
sonic wouldn't be damaged as badly as a brand, since heroes wouldn't happen (the main point of which was being an underperforming multiplat and redoing sonic for gamecube-tards)
there's a chance that xbox wouldn't happen, it ripped the dreamcast off a lot after all
the online gaming is free, everyone lives happily ever. dreamcast 2 beats ps3 in sales, killing off sony. the gaming console market consists only of nintendo and sega.

that's, of course, if 3d sonic for saturn would become a big-hitter. saturn already had a compelling library back in '97, increasing the possibility of it selling great, if the game is solid.
