for me a gameplay game is one that requires both technical skill and creativity (modern "soccer" games for example). Most shmups aren't very good gameplay games since you always do the same stuff, there's no creativity involved. umihara is the epitom of a gameplay game because of the simplicity of the concept and the infinite number of possibilities.
