A. The backstory of ALttP was already partially worked out by the time the original came out (the civil war/age of chaos that preceded Ganon's rise), and
B. Those mass graves in Zelda 2 several times the size of Zelda 1's Hyrule may not be Ganon's doing. The manual did state the rest of the world was in an 'Age of Chaos' at the time instead of stating it was 'destroyed by Ganon'. Combined with this interview, now there's a real possibility the original intent was Hyrule being wrecked by internal strife and only afterwards was there a Ganon invasion.

Seriously, think about all the scenes featuring Rinoa especially the ones you need to save her. I can't be the only one who thinks the game goes full-retard during them? Or that FFVIII could be improved a lot by having anyone but Rinoa as the forced love interest or simply by removing the whole romance sub-plot from it all-together? Rinoa really serves no purpose apart from being an eventual love interest for Squall or that the scenes that have focus on rescuing her really feel out of place?

instead, spells are use based like in I and III
each spell you equip starts with 5 uses and the more you use it, the more its max number of uses increases
weak spells like fire will max out at 99 uses, while strong spells like ultima will max out at 9 etc.
spell power, effects and accuracy are fixed and are only affected by the users intelligence/soul

Every retro gaming system needs an add-on.
