That looks pretty good. I like the 3D print look. In my day the least lag was from the Pelican converter, but there's been so many more developments since that has reduced it, so if the engineers of that Blue Indigo device followed through, it should be one of the better ones. Since I think they were designed for rhythm games, which are pretty particular to timings, It should be near lagless.

It was the Pelican one as >>10226532 mentioned. I had to get one because the PS3 did not respect inputs and had a tendency to drop them, so I still favored wired controllers, especially the Sega Saturn pads.

That was a great game too on the Saturn, but it may not benefit as much with the Saturn as I always thought of the front vulcan blade and rear railgun are the primary base weapons, while the remainder can be mapped anywhere which could suit other controllers well too. I still find the Saturn controller fitting me best for a large amount of game genres.

I prefer the Sega Saturn controller for most 2D games. If I can set the buttons in game, for a diamond layout, I'd prefer them on YZBC.

I use the Pelican adapter which was reported with the lowest lag back then, but the problem was that the PS3 by default drops inputs even with direct connections. That's why the 360 was preferred for fighting games in its day. I only have about 8 genuine DS3s, in 5 different colors, as they are hard to find in my area because everyone prefers Xbox in my region. Be careful as there are a lot of fake DS3s around.

I have used both the USB ones and adapters just find what is most convenient and best for your situation. I really wanted to get that original nVidia card with the Saturn controller ports but those are hard to find.

I am cursed with non-Devil Robot hands, and the only controller I am really comfortable using is the official Sega Saturn controllers. Unfortunately the cheap replicas widely available does not feel right to me. I have many adapters so that I can use some form for other systems. I use it for fighting games and some rerelease games (like Guardian Heroes and Radiant Silvergun on Xbox 360, as those feel right to me only with the Saturn controller). I also use the Saturn controller for emulation, too. Modern games like Wild Guns Reloaded, Sonic Mania, Phantom Breaker: Battlegrounds, Yatagarasu, etc. all feel great using these controllers.

However, the majority of games I play with these old controllers do not require more than the buttons available. I can think of a couple example where I still play a game when these do not provide enough buttons: the Aki wrestling games on N64 emulation. When I emulate them, X+A are the N64's B&A while YZBC are the C direction buttons and L&R remain the same. However to taunt/activate full spirit meter, which requires an analog stick direction, I map those inputs to the arrow keys on the keyboard. However, I do have an adapter that converts a real N64 controller to USB if I really wanted all the controls for the emulated Aki wrestling games.

I have not taken apart the innards of the analog stick (more like sphere), but I know the triggers use a magnet that gets closer to a chip when a trigger is pulled. I have 2 of the NiGHTS controllers, but a magnet fell out on one of the triggers of one of those controllers and I had no idea where it came from initially and have since lost that magnet (I was wondering what was making a rattling noise inside them long ago, thinking it was a broken piece of plastic inside, and opened it up). I wonder if I can find another trigger magnet of the correct size and strength again to fix my one broken controller.

The PS2 had tons of options for controllers. I think it's the console that has the most robust options for controllers.

In those days I remember everyone still stuck with playing the arcade cabinets and my home port of choice was the Sega Saturn (as it was my primary system then). I clearly remembered being steered away from the Dreamcast version because of all the complaints of its 1 frame input lag. I even remember Evo tournament organizers hated the Dreamcast so much as to destroy them on stream/camera. Yet, they never complained about the PS2 version, because it supposedly used the actual arcade ROM instead of being reprogrammed as it was for the Dreamcast. I wish I hadn't been swayed in those days, as the game is way too expensive for me to get on the Dreamcast now, and I really want it just because it is on the Dreamcast.

*I meant lower right ... the left one I did finish cleaning and I have learned as controllers advance they take longer for me to clean due to their complexity.

As I said, the Wii-U is too expensive for me to afford. It seems to have a lot of games I want to play, and the Wii-U pro controllers look so good to me.

There are a lot of PS2(1) to USB adapters around. Back around the PS3 launch I remember reading the Pelican adapter had the least lag (lower left).

For Sega Saturn, I used to use a cheap USB adapter, which was the only one available. I think these days it is under the Mayflash branding. I felt it lagged a bit, but I am able to compensate a bit. I am cursed with hands that only accepts authentic Saturn controllers and that adapter was the best I could get at the time (I am the losing P2):

It is pretty necessary to me. Not many other controllers I am at peace with. Some people love the SNES controller or 360 controller but the Sega Saturn controllers suit me best.

>>3830497
I know I can just google it, but walk me through the FreeMcBoot thing. I have the fat and a network adapter with an old IDE HDD. Sounds like something to have fun with.

Not OP, but For the Genesis, I favor the official 6-button pads. Both the US larger one and the Japanese smaller one works fine for me.

I am still waiting on GDemu to become available. I hate that I missed out on a Phoebe for Saturn, I kept refreshing the page, and the one weekend I got busy, it became available and sold out on me.

I would say whatever suits your hands best. I personally find the Sega Saturn controller to be the best for my play, so I've gotten adapters for it to all systems. There are even official USB ones too. They are great for me in general use.

However, for some emulated games, like those that require analog sticks or two joysticks, I'd try an adapter for a more specialized controller (like a N64 to USB adapter for N64, or Wii-U Pro for the dual analog sticks for Smash T.V.).

meant to say "upper left" ... for a 360-styled controller with a 3 over 3 button layout ...

>>3658268
Also the Alienware has a nice small form factor just for a emulation machine, is one of the reasons I thought it would work out.

>>3658275
Ouch, controller prices are so expensive for me now. How does one get a $25 discount?

It looks legit to me. Imagine being cursed with hands that can only appreciate the real Sega/SLS made Sega Saturn controllers, and can feel the cheap knockoffs sold everywhere now. The Sega Saturn pad is near perfect for my non-Robot-Devil hands and I am afflicted with this curse.

I care, I care a lot. To me, those are very interesting pictures, and remind me how fucking broke I am. There's so much I want there, and the pictures through the power of imagination allow me to fantasize about getting some of those amazing things.
