You can still manage to do both at the same time if you use your feet or something on the 2nd controller (turbo mode only requires to press L and R), but still.
Great game though.

I think it might be the only Dragon Ball game where Goku isn't playable by default.

Super Butoden 2 is my favorite as well.
In Japan there's still a small scene that plays it competitively.
Butoden 3 is also good, even though it lacks a story mode, gameplay-wise it has some small improvements over Butoden 2, but still prefer Butoden 2 overall.
A shame Shin Butoden wasn't really good.

Dragon Ball was a 90s thing for me, by 1998 I had already read the whole manga. But I remember feeling weird knowing that DB started in the 80s, and was actually older than I am, by one year.
Anyway, even if you're in USA, in the early to mid 90s, there was a weird dub of the original Dragon Ball, I think made my Harmony Gold (the guys from Robotech) where Goku was called Zero. It didn't stuck though, and I think in USA only DBZ got popular, but in most other countries we had Dragon Ball first, then Z.
USA also got some of the DBZ movies and the first DBZ episodes on VHS and DVD in the late 90s. But you're right, probably it didn't become massive there until the 00s thanks to Toonami.

Shin Butoden? Sadly it's one of the worst Butoden games in terms of gameplay. Mainly what ruined it was the super tiny stages, but also the controls feel all sort of clunky and awkward compared to the much better Butoden 2 and 3.
I wish Shin Butoden was better, because it has a great roster, but alas.
It's at least better than Ultimate Battle 22, though.

In Super Butoden 2 if you let the attract mode going for 10 cycles, Mr. Popo will appear for a second on the title screen. And if you let another 10 cycles, Piccolo will appear briefly flying on the back.

But I also like all the RPGs on Famicom/SFC and Game Boy, as well as Buu Yuu Retsuden on Megadrive, Super Gokuu-den 1 and 2, Butoden 3 and Hyper Dimension on SFC, and Legends on Playstation.

The only really bad DBZ games I played were Final Bout and Ultimate Battle 22.
Shin Butoden on Saturn was a disappointiment, but was still OK, not as bad as UB22.

Super Butoden 1 is nice enough, and it introduced the split-screen mechanic, but Super Butoden 2 is where it's at.
A lot of the issues from the first game were fixed (now you can fly up to the sky by pressing a button, then go back to ground by pressing the same button again), it's faster, has better controls, and an amazing story mode with different endings.

Super Butoden 3 and Shin Butoden on Saturn were also great, but I think Super Butoden 2 remained the best one, it's to this day my favorite DBZ game, I still play it with my friends from time to time

good game OP, the sequel DBZ III is also good, you fight Cooler and his minions, the androids and then Cell (only his first form since the sotry haven't reach the Cell Game then).
