The big colorful thing represents all colors one can see, the black triangle represents all colors possible within the RGB color space, and the white triangle represents all colors possible within the NTSC color space.

Raw NTSC is capable of a blue-er blue than RGB, so when modern TVs or a capture card receive the NTSC signal and try to translate the color values, the blue gets truncated, because it's outside of the RGB color space, leaving it being slightly purple.
