Here is what I predict may happen if you start with Zero Mission: you'll try to move on to Metroid II next, but you'll find it too slow and difficult compared to the relatively quick and forgiving Zero Mission (not that M2: Return of Samus is particularly brutal or anything). Then every other person on /vr/ will try to get you to play AM2R instead, even though it's a completely different experience and sort of shits all over the memory of the Game Boy game by trying to make it more like Super Metroid. And then you'll see me bitching at them and you and calling everyone else in the thread spoiled Gen Z faggots because Return of Samus is my favorite Metroid game.

TL;DR, please heed >>7877218's advice. Grin and bear your way through Metroid and Metroid II by comparison will feel like a stroll in the park, I promise you.

My friend who is not very /vr/ hardware savvy recently started streaming retro games for a small audience of followers every Sunday night. I've lent him my AVS, my Super NT, and a bunch of NES and SNES games, and last night he started NES Metroid. To my surprise and delight, he's actually enjoying it so far despite how brutal the game is for newcomers to the series. I have to continually give him directions on where to go next, but he said he's having fun and will continue to stream it till he beats it.

So with that being said, I'm already thinking ahead of what to hook with up with next should he decide to continue with the series. I already plan on lending him my Super Metroid, but I'd really love if it I could somehow convince him to play Metroid II first. He didn't own a GB growing up, and it's probably asking too much of him to lend him my Super Game Boy and have him mess around with palette options in the middle of a stream. I know there are colorization hacks for Metroid II, but I assume they use the GBC format and I don't know if there's a way to play GBC on real hardware.

TL;DR, is it even possible to play Game Boy Color games on real SNES hardware, or even a clone like Super NT? Does such an accessory exist, and if not, are there any other ways to play the original Metroid II in color apart from in a Super Game Boy or emulator?
