While RE1.5 did have neat elements to it, other anons have pointed out that the levels in their current form probably wouldn't have been that memorable or fun to explore. Another concern about the beta was the story, because what was there just wasn't terribly compelling, or it just felt like a rough draft for what would've taken place in the final product. The devs themselves weren't terribly happy with how it was shaping up to say the least.
Capcom made the right choice in the end, because while there's aspects I still love about the prototype like its different soundtrack/levels, the final product was a much better game. Had 1.5 saw it all the way through to the end, history would've regarded it as widely inferior to the original.

I beat all the Sonic genesis games recently. I had them since I was a young kid but was never able to get far in them until I was an adult in my 20s

I still frequently play "retro" games I've never touched before and have an absolute blast armored core and Crash bandicoot are coming to mind

I got filtered when you and Lance have to blow up a store in the mall then escape back home.
Lance's AI is so shit I just couldn't handle it after so many attempts .
Its a shame I was loving the characters and story.

So many great aspects, completely ruined by the controls. Same with the original armored core games.
Someone really needs to make some sort of hack that gives these early Fromsoft titles better controls because everything about them is amazing.
The grappling hook and gameplay overall were well thought out, too bad chinks cant into controls back then

Yes, utterly, outside of memes, exploits, and the rare legitimate terrain advantage. 20+ stabs to kill and the knife animation itself thrusts your character and their hitbox right into zombie arms. Slashing downward even on a standing enemy is marginally more effective, but it is a joke weapon compared to the RE1 version.

RE1 is less linear and generally better designed, but RE2 is more streamlined, way easier and has higher production values and generally more "triple AAA quality" which is why people like it more.
