He thinks they're soulless imitations of retro games plus he totally sucks at them because what few important innovations that HAVE happened completely escape him. e.g. the mouselook comic. He gets beat every time if he tries to play online multiplayer because a huge element of his psychological game is lost. Analog sticks are a novelty to him, mainly for playing Knights. Buying a game and not getting anything but a limited license to download it would seem like a joke to him especially over dialup etc etc.

He obviously smokes (way too big a part of arcade culture not to) and chances are those big fat "cigars" aren't always tobacco. He likely does use the "Winners don't..." as a go-to phrase though, including about drugs but he doesn't consider whatever he does to be using drugs. He's the kind of person those messages are warning about, the target of the messages, and and advocate of them all at the same time paradoxically.

I personally advocate a healthy balance for /vr/ of emulation for convenience, mobility and variety along side real hardware for respect, authenticity and texture but /vr/-tan definitely plays exclusively on real hardware. As a fictional character he definitely has an MSX Turbo R and boxed copy of Illusion City or any other particular title no matter how rare, obscure or expensive and mobility isn't an issue since he can pull a Super Nintendo and CRT right out of his hammerspace when necessary and he knows exactly where to find the old dilapidated arcade in every neighborhood that's been there since before you were born and you never knew about.
