I love the Cotton games, they're my favorite shmups on the system. Prikura Daisakusen is also very enjoyable.
What are your thoughts on the 3D pad? I love using it even for non-3D games, it feels a lot more comfortable than the standard controller since it's a lot bigger. Some people say the D-pad is a bit worse but I can't tell any notable difference.

The Gamecube has a dogshit D-pad.
That said, while pic attached comes closest there is no one perfect controller. I wouldn't use it for NES games for example. No second analogue means you can't play a fair amount of later gen games with it. The neGcon batters it for racing games.

This was released around the same time and this stick position is still a standard for Xbox cotrollers.
Also it's the first one with analog L and R triggers. N64 Z-trigger was still digital.

I always liked this gamepad. Great d-pad, analogue works well, L and R analogue triggers, six buttons on the face.

If you look at it from a pre-analogue stick world then it was the only real way to do 3D

Remember, The Saturn and Playstation didnt have any analogue sticks for the first 2-3 years. RE came in March '96, Dualshocks predecessor was released April '97, pic related came in May '96. Also N64 wasnt released until a month after the 3d Control Pad so no Mario 64 to give an example of how to do 3D

They really should have marketed this controller better. It makes every first party game after NiGHTs play so much better but most people didn’t have one. Games like Burning Rangers and PDS are so much better with the 3D controller.

I agree that it's a better controller than the N64's, it just seems like they somehow regressed in almost every way from the Saturn 3D pad.
