Fanboys were mad at it because it stripped away all the bullshit nobody used (yeah you sure were going to cast that faggot poison and sleep spell), as well as the obnoxious random battles. The scope was limited, as it was intended - it's an introductionary RPG. Yet it never meant that the quality was bad. Exploration was fun and interactive, the characters varied and cool, as were the locations.
