I didn't said here >>8827894 that you should just use whatever; what I meant is that specifically grinding and building up affinities isn't necessary for a casual playthrough. I remember simply using one weapon per type of enemy, and mostly improvising my armor with random pieces depending on the situation. Crafting I used to occasionally merge newer weapons with older ones to transfer affinities if the result preview looked fine, but I didn't really obsess over the fine print.

Anyway, I'm not implying that the depth of that part of the gameplay is pointless, but I do notice people tend to get completely put off by the system and drop or avoid the game altogether: I meant to reassure them to not miss on a pretty compelling and fun game because they might believe it's essential to fully understand and leverage everything about it on your first playthrough.
