>Should I feel like a dope for buying Doom1 on the Switch before that?
You can still grind the original three episodes on Nightmare on the Switch. Since it's mobile you can take it anywhere. The episode 3 runs take about 13 minutes, episode 2 about 20, and episode 1 about 25 minutes, so if you need to kill some time somewhere you can play these. I made some walk-throughs to show people the best route to take to beat each episode with 0 deaths on Nightmare:

You will wanna memorize the route first, maybe by doing a deathless UV run first. It took me maybe 50 hours of grinding to achieve my first deathless NM run of episode 1, but then again I didn't have a walk-through to help me

I made some walk-throughs of how to complete each of the original Doom episodes on Nightmare difficulty in single-segment runs. I go to all the important secret areas, even if I have full health/armor/ammo, just to show you where they all are. I skip the useless secrets like the +4 armor or chainsaw on E1M2. All the runs are different; it's not the same demo, I performed each run on each source port:

I'd say go for some custom maps. I've never been a fan of D2 or Final Doom, and I wouldn't want you to get burned out playing maps you don't like. If you're determined to keep trying out pistol-start UV, go for Scythe next. It has 3 episodes - switch to Hurt Me Plenty on the final episode, like the map author suggests, especially if you're doing pistol starts.

If you wanna try something different, try beating the first three episodes on Nightmare! You have to run through the maps because monsters respawn randomly. I made some walk-throughs

>Whenever I'm feeling kinda aimless or empty I find myself hopping into E4M2 on UV. Are there maps you guys like to go back to for comfort?
I like attempting deathless runs of the original 3 episodes on Nightmare difficulty, or doing deathless runs of douk episode 1 on Damn I'm Good, though I admit it's mainly because I have the routes memorized. I am branching out and working on memorizing more runs so I have more comfy runs to go back to - I hate the feeling of wandering around in a new map feeling lost; it's so much more fun to blast through routes you have memorized while dealing with respawning monsters. I don't speedrun, but now I can appreciate how speedrunners can grind the same things for hours - doing long perfect runs gives you a high that first play-throughs can't match.

I recorded some walkthrough demos and posted them on youtube (see >>6282634), so I can finally say I am done with the original three episodes; I originally secured my first deathless runs 2 months ago, and recently I played almost all day for several days recording these demos, so I can finally say I am burned out on the original 3 Doom episodes. I can't record episode-long douk demos, so I have to record live playing which will eat up a lot more hard-drive space, but that's the next video I need to record. I already have an episode 1 route, I was working on memorizing E2 but I wanted to create these walkthrough vids first
