Redditors and Midnight is one thing but i think the worst to come out of new Doom's lore is the breadtube/twitter clout crowd legitimately saying
>Doom has such a smart anti-capitalist message
You mean the games that made the series more corporate to the point the Slayer's Club makes a marketing point out of the fanbase, has toy pick ups soon turned into real merch and even the lore feels like something done in an age of the MCU and where being a "nerd" is commercial?
Or the "boomer shooters" that actually came in a time of Satanism/violence being taboo in media and had a prolific progammer fighting his way to make sure his games were as moddable and open source as possible?
Classic Doom is more "anti-establishment" compared to new Doom
You had a whole fanbase treating a series like it was free and theirs, with unofficial Doom 64 ports, the Doomwiki replacing Wikia as a protest, mods, source ports, documentation and more from specific obsessed nerds because otherwise, the series was dormant so the fanbase "was" the franchise during those times
Fucking "Doomguy" is a fan nickname but it sticks to show this
Now, you have those who are no different from the MCU/Disney Star Wars brand defenders and it's partially because ZeniMax enables it
At least the r/Doom posters making the same memes and reaction images don't pretend to know better than those that make up reasons to "like" something because otherwise Doom is too silly for them
