It was as powerful as the Gamecube, easily. Developers were just starting to get really comfortable on the console by the time Sega pulled the plug. And instead of releasing the stopgap Dreamcast, they could easily have taken a couple years to develop a truly next-generation console which could also serve as the basis for an arcade system.
