mate you can go on youtube and watch early episodes of Gamesmaster where they talk quite a bit about it. why bother talking about a dead on arrival console if it didn't slowly take off years into its release?

Also look at UK nes consoles, you get Mattel versions, which were the poorly marketed ones and you have the NES versions, which is when Nintendo took the rights for european distribution from mattel and got some traction with the system in the early 90's
