Yes. The novel is actually quite weird in that Ana is the main character of the story and the story is told through her perspective. The start of the novel is her meeting Ken (Ninten was not his canon name yet, that wouldn't be until the Banpresto figure used it as his name) and Lloyd. Ken is kind of an asshole and I guess there's a bit of a love triangle with the three of them since Ana and Lloyd initially strike a friendship while Ken just kind of sees her as dead weight. Also Teddy is in his 40s in the novel for some reason, he's never been given a canon age but based on his model I feel it's safe to assume they intended him to be in his upper teens or possible early twenties at most. Giygas is described as being "insect like" but I'm not sure exactly what that means, that's all I have ever heard regarding his appearance in the novel.

There's sadly even less known about the Mother 2 novel, there was a video of Tomato reading a really fucking bizarre chapter involving the Summers section and meeting Poo but I could never find it again. I know that Jeff becomes a wheelchair bound cyborg apparently.

Shit, I had previously only knkwn of a hack that partially used his script due to space issues. Alright, this is absutely tbe definitive version now. Nice to know a version with no compromises now exists.

If graphics are your issue, this basically restores all of them to vanilla
I played both 25th anniversary and the original, and I wish there was a compromise because the original is grindy and hard as balls at times, while the 25th anniversary is significantly easier than even Earthbound, which is way easier than vanilla Mother; the QOL changes in 25th are great like the easier map or getting team members at a half decent level, but the battles are easy because you end up having to grind to earn money anyway and you overlevel in the process

All three games are excellent with their own strengths and weakenesses.

Mother 1, to me, has a purity that, while not totally lost in the other two games, isn't quite as simple. Mother 2/Earthboumd and especially Mother 3 use more satire and critique of society. While satire is in Mother 1 it also has a more fantastical feel with areas like Magicant. It's just a feel good experience with just enough sentimental moments to leave a strong impact while nevet once feeling overbearing or forced.

Lots of lines are more dull or don't flow as well. There's also things like the removal of blood and crosses in the rom.

Weird, I liked the town's names being holidays as it felt like in line as jokey misunderstanding of how a Japanese person views western society. I remember Phil Sandhop said he changed them as he thought they sounded "childish" which I think is kind of petty.

I don't despise the Sandhop translation, like many it was how I first experienced the game, but the dialouge is a crucial aspect of the series for me and I think a better script makes the gba version better for that alone. The worse sound quality and smaller screen size don't bother me nearly as much as the duller script of EB0.

Mother is not really a grindfest. You don't ever need to grind in this game. And since, like Dragon Quest, the only penalty is losing half your money (which you can save on the ATM anyway), dying on battles isn't that big of a deal.
It's not a very long game, you can finish the game with Ninten on level 30 or thereabouts.
The random encounters can be tedious, yeah, but that's just a thing in these old RPGs. Battles are really quick anyway, there's no loading times or long attack animations, so if you don't suck too much, you can go through them rather quickly. There's also ways to avoid battles, Ninten's 4th-D Slip move is 100% effective for escaping battles, don't remember if it consumes PP.

Who the fuck cares? It's so much better on GBA than it ever would've been on N64. Do you want timeless graphics or the shitstain that were the 3D models in EB64?
>m-muh N64 would've had a more complete library tho
How many games a console has doesn't mean shit, what matters is what console compliments the game the best. Fucking retard.

Listen, I can't tell you how much the mother series means to me. It been a big influence in my life. I literally have a 4000-4500+ folder of fanart for the three games. I genuinely just feel that the more accurate writing is more important then the flaws in the gba version. The prototype is fine for a late 80's/early 90's translation job, if released at the time it would be pretty serviceable, but I find it to be too much of a product of it's time. I find the subtleties of Itoi's writing is lost there, as expected of the game considering the time period.

I was under the impression you were trying to start conflict here just for the sake of it. I respect your opinion, I really do, but I can't say I agree at all. At the least thank you for acting respectful and more genuine now. I would much rather have a proper debate then starting flamewars where nothing gets across.

As >>3709557 said it means the very opposite, you will need them even more. If you honestly hate the comboing that much just, I don't know, be a normal person and don't press A when you attack. The game doesn't absolutely force you at any point to do them. Not every game is about making it as difficult as possible. Mother as a series is pretty easy, always was.

I find myself listening to Earthbound / Mother more than any other. I don't know that it's my favorite franchise musically, but it's the one that sticks in my skull the most.

Mother is way less grindy then the final fantasy or dragon quest games of the same era. Even if you don't personally like it other people who enjoy famicom jrpgs would definitely enjoy MOTHER.
