It's less liked now than it was because a lot of its impact was context-dependent. Most people are probably playing it at home and can easily finish it in which case its flaws become pretty apparent. It's very short, has very shallow gameplay and the only really cool thing about it is the transformations, which they take the piss out of by recycling the werewolf for the final stage which just seems lazy as fuck. I mean, there's only five stages. They couldn't come up with one more creature?

But for a kid in the arcades circa 1989-90 who probably only had enough quarters to get to stage three, that didn't matter so much. Just getting to see the bear transformation was a big deal. And it made for an impressive pack-in title because at the time the only real competition was the regular NES and this looked way better than anything an 8-bit system could do. In the 90's I fucking loved this game, now I think it's B-tier but nobody should hate it.
