>Unless you're playing 6-button fighters
Umm, no? This is directly the sort of game where more triggers blow traditional face button excess away.

You keep thinking that posting more words is more persuasive but you're still failing the comprehend the very simple nature of my argument that I've laid out a billion times now. I'll just focus on this one bit that really irritated me in particular:
>Now map up a frequently used attack to a left shoulder/trigger button. Unless you are highly ambidextrous or capable of concentrating on multiple things at the same time, I guarantee you will screw up that move easier, because you associate it with a hand that is otherwise preoccupied with completely unrelated motions. This is because of how the human brain controls the arms. Look it up.
I don't need to look anything up; this is EXACTLY what I did when I was going for really high scores in Chaos Field for the Gamecube. Relying on face buttons for all those different inputs was inadequate for the dexterity and combinations in which I needed to activate things so I put more of them on the three shoulder buttons and only used two face buttons regularly. I even got myself a Hori Game Boy Player controller at one point but their moronic mapping of the Z button into a face button actually turned out to be very detrimental to my playing the game at a high level. As a consequence I don't use that controller for Chaos Field at all--one of the very games I bought it for hoping to take advantage of its superior D-pad and digital shoulder buttons.

Face buttons are very inefficient. If I had my way I wouldn't even put four of them on a controller; three is the maximum amount I think anyone can be reasonably expected to operate all at once in any combinations with their thumb. More inputs belong on the shoulder/backside for your other fingers.

>Saturn and MD d-pads are obviously way better, but then again they were the best d-pads ever made.
Hah, no.
