People on twitter started to censor words related to right-wing topics, because right wingers would search those words and then harass them for having different opinions. So they would censor words like "nazi" or "rape" or whatever so they didnt show up in search results.
Right wingers saw this, thought, "wow those snowflakes are so fragile they cant even say rape or nazi or niggers," and began to use it to mock them.
This just kinda evolved into ironically censoring something you dont like, or ironically censoring something to imply that someone else doesn't like it.
