1st tier is bretty gud even without necromancy stuff, that's rare for 1st tier to be remotely revelant in mid-late game, yet skeletons do just that. Zombies are magnificient for tanking damage, wraiths are fucking annoying with their mana stealing. In very long battles, every casting point counts. Vampire Lords are the best 4th tier in the game, Liche can actually attack several units with his cloud, Dread Knight is easily one of the best 6 tiers in the game. Ghost Dragons aren't that amazing compared to other 7 tier units, but they do have aging special attack - that's breddy gud stuff. AND you get max size of mage guild.

In general, Necropolis have only one real disadvantage - army is quite slow. In early game, they don't get any sort of archer. That's it.
