Plok was one of the best Western platformers in existence when Miyamoto demoed it in early-mid 1993, though that says more about the absolute state of the Western game industry at the time than it does about Plok. The game's simplicity (it has more in common with Mega Man than other mascot platformers) meant that there wasn't much room to fuck up.

He also may have been intrigued by a game exploring similar ideas to his Super Donkey prototype.

The only Nintendo console with "hidden gems" are the Gameboy and arguably the Wii. Everything else's been picked clean.

There's also the camera, which is too zoomed in and doesn't show much of what's in front of you.

I made a thread about ot a couple of months ago and it didn't get much traction. There's not much to say about a basic platformer from 25 years ago, especially as the webcomic updates have slowed down and the sequel is likely a few years away from being finished.
