You like Kingpin: Life of Crime? Xatrix's early work was a little too amateurish for my tastes, but when Kingpin came out in '99, I think they really came into their own - commercially and artistically. The whole game has a gritty, down-to-earth style, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism with handling the idtech2 that really give the game a big boost. It's been compared to GTA, but I think Kingpin has far more bitter, cynical sence of humor. In '01, Xatrix, now Gray Matter Interactive, released this, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, their most accomplished game. I think their undisputed masterpiece is Dark Secret, an episode so standout, most people probably don't even it belongs to the game. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity to genre conventions, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the WWII shooters itself. Hey Machine Games!
