I've only played 1 but the other guy would know.
The good example I do know of is the Metroid series and then Other M, Samus is previously established as a no nonsense professional and then in Other M she's not at all like that.

in my view the sort of "parent culture" of doom should remain closer to how it was originally though i remember early on in these threads we'd have fuckheads whining that you're playing the game wrong if you have so much as openGL on or you use mouselook (just dont shoot any switches that would be unshootable if it was off) or you make a level where you jump

if it's what style you prefer that's nice and dandy and i dont mind though this guy would stand around whining at players using custom resources in maps as they were playing the game wrong, then implying that anything that used anything different was just some aeons of death type fuckfest

I love Quake, I'm here in the DOOM threads most of the time but I really did like Quakes singleplayer (or 2 and 3's multiplaer bots back in the day when I was in school).

I just always like the singpleplayer games of that (same reason I like doom). You have a map and you go around it navigating obstacles, solving puzzles, collecting items and getting into big shootouts before getting into the next map and doing it in a new way on a new map with a new environment and cool new music.

The e-sports (or MLG whatever) guys do make me roll my eyes though, same reason that purist dickheads in DooM threads piss me off.

Were the Quake mission packs any good?
I hear one was amazing while the other was a turd in a microwave.

it was purists that made the maker of unloved not want to make unloved 2

thanks retards, looking forward to playing whatever it is that you make

purists are like the kid in preschool who does not like the game so he smashes the toy and stomps off

>brutal doom

Brutal Doom has been in the top ten mods on ModDB, it even won awards. I think it's great because it either brings back older doomers or brings new players to the game and from there they may go and try other things.

That's seriously the way I see it - Brutal has brought more doomers to the game and more doomers = more people playing doom things.

Not every person who started on brutal likes and plays it exclusively.

>Doom has to evolve to survive.
That sounds like it's overblowing it a little bit but I still agree, standard boom-compatible levels will always be more common and liked but after nearly twenty fucking years I'm sure a little bit of variety in level/game styles with a sprinkling of added resources wont fucking hurt, purists.

They dont watch out, they might even have some fun.
