Yup. We were blown away by how deep it was for a game boy game.

and as for
>why did they not do a full on 8 bit one
Because they'd already did one on the NES, were planning an eventual sequel on the NES' successor that was going to be the big technological leap and in the meantime they wanted to sell more Game Boys

Their price point was fucked because they farmed out console production to 3rd parties and those 3rd parties couldn't sell it at a loss the way Sony did with the playstation because then there'd be no point in even making the things at all. They had to sell these things at actual cost + a profit margin while Sony was effectively subsidizing the purchase of every playstation.

In their defense, at the time no one was really sure which strategy was more sound. Profiting off hardware made a certain amount of sense. That's how Nintendo did it. But the exponential growth in costs for those fifth-gen consoles made it harder to do so. The Gameboy could be manufactured cheaply so didn't cost a fortune. The 3DO cost a lot to produce so it cost a lot at retail.

Strider was such hot shit when it came out, I remember the double splash page ads in the gaming magazines showing off the insane graphics and bragging about how Nintendidn't.

Although I actually liked the weird NES version, too. Better to do something original than just a half-assed arcade port to a system that couldn't handle it

I remember this game very fondly because they had it in a local store when I was a kid. Zoomers need to realize that progress in arcade cabinets was incremental. Everywhere didn't just get the hot new shit as soon as it came out. Rastan wasn't mindblowing by 1987 standards but if your local grocery store or pizza parlor had a lineup of early 80's games it looked pretty shiny and new by comparison.

Also, if you just get to just sit down and play it with infinite continues its flaws and simplistic nature become more apparent but that's not how we did things. You would usually have a few quarters and you'd get to try a couple games but not get anywhere near beating them. In three minute increments between pizza slices it was amusing enough

Yeah big hits being multiplatform is still normal but what what nobody realized back then was how important exclusives were. The whole sales pitch for every console was basically "our version of centipede and frogger is better than the others."

I think it was mostly because arcades were still such a big deal. All the major games came from arcades first. There was stuff like Adventure and Pitfall that were only for home consoles but none of them were as huge as something like Pac-Man. Consoles were mostly seen as arcade port machines and the original stuff was a mixed bag. So it kind of made sense that they all leaned on the same titles but, like you said, it led to a bunch of homogeneous offerings. It was a console war where picking a side was kind of pointless because it was all the same either way. Thankfully, Nintendo and Sega figured out they needed more unique offerings and took more advantage of the different genres you could apply to home consoles.

>having the entire internet in your pocket always is something I still can't seem to acclimate to.

I think seeing the internet as something you can access anywhere but don't necessarily have to *is* the proper acclimation. If you grew up without it you see it as a nice add-on to daily life an not an essential component, which means you can deal without it. Zoomers are fucking junkies who can't even function normally offline anymore.

Of course this is probably how my Dad felt watching me play Nintendo

When they can come up with a list of more than 5 Saturn exclusives people actually cared about

Not even being a dick, I honestly just don't think the library supports a mini release, especially if there's issues with Panzer Dragoon Saga since that would be one of the games people would actually get excited about

Yeah but anon wants honest opinions, that thread is full of contrarian zoomer cancer

In my honest opinion, game is fucking great and will always have a special place in my autistic brain because it was the pack-in game for the first Nintendo console I ever owned. People complain about it being inferior to 3 now but lemme tell you as an oldfag who was there when it dropped no one was pining away for 3. This shit was hot and was blowing people's minds. You could just see all the extra horsepower they had to work with.

It's not absolutely necessary, people on youtube have done no-upgrade runs on the hardest difficulties so in theory you could upgrade whatever you want and it would work. But for a normal run without being an expert you would probably regret maxing out the gorgon head or the thunderbolt and being stuck on hard boss fights with low-level blades. You have limited use of magic, the blades never run out.

Also, if you're really new to the series keep in mind that there's a lot of hidden shit everywhere. Don't just plow through levels without looking around for hidden chests, you want those health and magic upgrades.

I like the color scheme better and I prefer rectangles to cubes, I guess. I don't dislike the PCE design but it does kinda look like a piece of hospital equipment to me.

Now, if we're talking about the console + the CD >>8969505 then, yeah, it gets weird. But That was kind of besides the point for me since there was no way in hell I could afford one back then.

Yeah you can still interrogate people but you have a hair fucking trigger now and if you're going for a no-kill run it's best to just leave them alone because it goes wrong so easily.

I also had a problem with aiming in FPV and then putting the gun down without actually firing off a shot. Before, you could sort of slowly take pressure off the trigger, now, if you push the button hard enough to aim he's gonna fire unless you unequip it. Minor annoyances but still, you can tell there's a difference

>it's just replaying Neo's scenes from the movie.

Make sure to use the rice ball bait trick: throw the rice to a specific location to lure a guard and then stealth kill him before he actually eats it so you can get multiple uses out of it. Also I'm probably stating the obvious here but use the rooftops as much as possible

And remember grandmaster is a challenge to add replay value, ghosting the entire game is the hardest thing you can do and is supposed to take a lot of practice. I eventually grandmastered all the levels but not on my first playthrough. I'd say just play through once from start to finish to enjoy the story and get familiar with the levels and if you can manage to get top ranks along the way then great but don't fixate on it. No need to get autistic with completionism the first time around.

I liked a lot of things about 9 and even beat the optional bosses which is not something I always do but at the same time I always find myself disinterested in the actual story and just enjoying the mechanics and the aesthetic of it. The characters all seem like they're straight out of a b-tier Disney movie and the villain is completely forgettable.

Literally, I don't even remember the dude's name. Puma? Kobe?

The tapes were basically what the codec calls were in the earlier games, except infinitely better since you didn't have to interrupt gameplay to listen to them anymore. They really made good use of the walkman concept.

I still say MGSV goes down as an all-time great game if they had let Kojima finish it. Even the unfinished version was better than most games of its era
