It is my favorite, I don't really care for the new characters but I like the gameplay best and the spritework is glorious

Normal human beings don't street fight, much less J pop waifs with metrosexual hair cuts. Terry is a cool design, and he looks like he fights, he looks like a street tough guy. There is a difference and a middle ground between Ryu le karate man and Kyo, a waify high school kid with a stylish haircut designed for little girls to swoon over. Nobody believes Kyo is a tough guy.

The best fighting game protagonist = Terry Bogard
The best fighting game antagonist = M. Bison
The best fighting game anti-hero = A tie between Kazuya Mishima and Scorpion

Yes, and Street Fighter makes more sense for Fatal Fury, which takes place in the urban setting of South Town and the protagonist is a very "street" looking character who's mostly going up against a street gang

FF has it's share of wacky characters and martial arts cliches but designs of guys like Terry, Duck King, Yamazaki, etc look like street guys

It always annoyed me how Street Fighter is called that but has no characters who look like they're actual street fighters.

Should have been called "World Warrior" and Fatal Fury should have been "Street Fighter"

My thing with SF was that every character design was like such an on the nose or over the stop cliche, which is probably also a factor as to why it's more iconic. SNK had more of a balance between the cartoonish and the cool though, while SF was just always more on the straight up cartoonish side.
