Yeah I got it, thanks. Didn't realize because you can only disable it via the setup (need to launch the exe by adding "-setup"), but not in in-game settings. I'll redo comparison screenshots later maybe.

The volumetric effects look terrible.

This is one of the oldest magazine previews I can find for the original Tomb Raider (on the Sega Saturn), it has really early beta screenshots and images from the early pre-rendered promotional videos. This preview is from November 1995.

Lara was Lara Cruz in the earliest builds. But back in mid 1995, an editor from a game magazine made this comment, because you didn't see female protagonists like Lara in games, outside of the odd Japanese title and 2D fighting games. Early 90's was really flooded with Sonic inspired characters. I feel like Lara Croft set the trend for the later half of the 90's. I would even say that Lara was one of the most influential 90's game characters.

some really early 1995 screenshots of Tomb Raider, complete with "Lara Cruz" mention in the write up. As her original name in some of these early previews was Lara Cruz. But changed to Croft, because the devs thought Cruz sounded too much like 'Cruise'.
