Lol, thanks. I did use a few tricks that were easy enough to incorporate into the run, but I'm by no means a speedrunner. If some sort of trick or route takes over 20 minutes to perfect I just drop it. There's also plenty of mistakes,
but MGS2 is my favorite game ever since it came out so I wanted to get a BB playthrough done.
2's VR missions also do a great job of showing how much the mechanics can bent and exploited.

Lol, exactly. It's what pretentious essays or reviews would call 'ludonarrative dissonance'. A similar thing with the first Bioshock. Wow, so you're acknowledging that the player doesn't actually have agency because games are bunch of deterministic ones and zeroes, all the while making no actual commentary or possibly offering a solution, so witty and deep.
I feel like these hack westerners played Metal Gear Solid 2 and were desperate to have some of that impact on their games, without particularly understanding why that worked so well.

it was a bait and switch, a subversion if you will. that ties into the actual plot where the main character is also bamboozled, it was a meta fuck you to the player. its one of the many reasons MGS2 is literally the best game ever made. it also served to sell some copies of ZoE

I like both games and am a huge MGSfag. MGS hurt the industry to an extent. The game had a lot of cutscenes and dialogue, but that was the gimmick, and the game had things to say, regardless of your opinion on them. The series success just brought failed directors who hate games to try their hand, but during the 6th gen that sort of thing was still a novelty. Games becoming bad movies with no gameplay was a natural progression of the medium once it hit mainstream, games like MGS only gave em a little push.
