I love III. It really defined what DQ was as a series and I consider it a must-play.

V is also very good.

VII is great, but only if you got a long attention span. Pic related.

7 isn't bad, it's just really, really slow and really, really, really long.

I'd recommend 5 and 8 as the more newbie friendly titles. 1 followed by 3 with an optional 2 if you end up getting into the series hardcore. I recommend original versions, remakes are for girls.
