Holy shit, you guys weren't memeing. I dusted off my 25 kg samsung syncmaster with the intention to play some dark games like Thief or Naissancee, and the perceived contrast difference is astonishing. It also feels that the highlights are brighter too, it hurts to look at white lights in a dim room in game.
Also tried out the first Quake at 640x480, looked crisp and blocky, I liked it a lot. Probably I will play most of the older games on the crt instead of fiddling with widescreen patches and looking at tiny art and fonts at modern resolutions.
