Comix Zone kicks ass! Considering Sega never made a sequel, what's the closest equivalent/clone?

Two things:

1. SEGA got a patent on thew cartoon panel beat 'em up where you go through different comic panel beating the shit out of enemies. Is that patent still valid or expired?

2. Why the fuck was there never a Comix Zone 2? Was it because they made it right at the end of the Genesis'/Megadrive's lifespan and they figured it didn't have enough fans and thus not profitable?

Anyway, cool game. It's even better if you can finish it in half an hour.
