I just read they did indeed butcher the game. They changed a key mechanic in that shooting your weapon drains your spirit. Shops are also more expensive. Some sprites were changed too, and the PSX doesn't compare with the Saturn graphics wise in 2D. I strongly suggest downloading or getting the Saturn version.
