Everyone did say to practice, so I was aiming to remove Xbox clock capacitors or replace keyswitches as my first try. I still have to find a place that has ventilation, as I'm terrified of the toxic fumes, so I hope to have saved enough to move in a couple years. Finding fans, tweezers, helping hands, flux, wick, solder, etc. is quite an investment for the few days I have off, not counting the laundry, cleaning, and groceries that eat up that spare time to learn. Once pay can cover the cost of living, I'd be much more able to try to learn.

I do emulate games it is a fine alternative to using actual hardware given the situation.

I got the stuff from China, back when it was the last place for cheap items but now it is best to avoid. There is no name for the pen but the branding for the control unit says "Ksger" which offers hot air stations and a confusing amount of sets which I am confused with the differences and uses. I would not recommend without having some native speaker help with translating to figure out what the things are.

I would like to avoid that which is why I'd prefer if there were professionals who could do such work, but by now they have all died off.

I was hoping it would make it easier since I figured my first practice was to replace the switches off one keyboard which are annoying sounding to another kind which is more satisfying to the ears. As time has rolled on since I've not gotten the time nor funds to get the materials, I'm having more and more reservations against such a project for practice.

Well, once I get the vent fan, helping hands, mats, wick, and solder, I will give removing the clock capacitor a try. I don't think they sell the singular capacitor either, and I only have 2 original Xboxes, so I will still be stuck with a bunch of unneeded ones further wasting money.

Same. The youtube video is so long and boring in that 60/70s style cadence which just puts me to sleep more than instructs. I've got solder, wicks, flux pens, ventilation fan, etc. in my Amazon wishlist, but never have found the time nor money to just jump in. That youtube video is like the biggest hurdle and I'm getting filtered. I've considered trying to change out keyboard switches as a good first project to learn before I attempt repairing that motherboard.

I ordered an iron from China back on 11/11/2020 and I have still not gotten it in yet.

I was thinking of these two projects to start out for practice:
- desolder clock capacitor from two original Xbox systems
- desolder the MX-Cherry blues from Corsair keyboard and replace with NK_sherbet

I still got to get some wicks, flux, solder wire, pumps, and surface once my stimulus check comes in. Think those are good places to start? Which of these should be used for such projects?

Well, I really would rather try to give my Atari Flashback 2 a cartridge port since I do not care about that at all, but I do not have a cartridge port nor wires. So I figured I do have a keyboard and some cheap Chinese switches.

I still have to save up to get some flux and wick but these tips came in. I am still waiting on the iron. Which one would be best to use for the switches?
