The N64vanias are more or less 3D classicvanias, so there would be a lot of platforming and fighting enemies, the other elements either strewn about in between and giving some direction or taking center stage in the ways how you mentioned. Basically, an action platformer with some I guess would call adventure elements. Personally, I like the variety, though when I think on it, I can't help but think that a lot of it was flipping switches and finding keys. Granted, given what gen it was, I'm not surprised or even all that disappointed, but still.

I don't agree on the camera, but I do pretty much agree on everything else. LoD was the first CV I played and it made a real good impression with its solid if not great combination of gameplay with an actually decent story and setting. Funnily enough, I actually prefer the original for its enemy and level designs. The vampires actually feel differentiated, the levels were minimalistic but got their point across very well, and I honestly just prefer the older werebeast AI designs. I get what LoD was going for with its take on the werewolf miniboss, but I honestly just would rather have the kung fu version who fucking glides across the ground to slash your face off no matter how fucking silly that shit is. Still nice having both versions, though.

You're unironically based, anon, holy shit, I think this is exactly what I was talking about.

You mean as regular enemies? I think only Order of Ecclesia did that, and while there was only one variation, they were decent. All the other games only feature them as bosses with barely anything to do with vampirism, and I suspect that the stupid fucking succubi mooks were meant as stand-ins.

I'm partial to the sea monster, Queen Algenie and Death for different reasons, personally.

Gonna go ahead and say yeah, probably, because both chars can autotarget once an enemy is in range, and while locking on with R would make you stop in your tracks, it should also be pointing your player character right at an enemy if there's one in the room, regardless of distance. Unless whatever version you're playing is fucked, I figure it's probably you fucking about too much or something. I don't know if jank is the right word for the 64vanias, but if it gets the point across that going nuts on the controller like you might in a modern game is a bad idea, then sure, let's call it jank.

But yeah, you might as well not bother with the different camera settings, I know I don't.
