I have never seen Tempest in person. But I do remember a local arcade that had an Asteroids Deluxe arcade machine. Asteroids deluxe is a vector arcade game where the screen projects itself to a mirrored surface, and that mirrored surface has a black light 'glow in the dark' back panel. the vectors have a cool glowing effect. There are some 3D elements to the background display. Mostly just cardboard pop-out images. Not easy to emulate the look of these machines through emulation.

It's really a cabinet that you gotta see in person. Just like all the vector Atari cabs. I
