The PSVita is a better all around device with a bigger oled screen on the 1000 model. While it has a lot of native emulation and neat projects going for it already there is also a homebrew app called "adrenaline" that breaks out of the confines of the internal psp emulator and drops you into a filled featured psp cfw on the vita. Also a hacked Vita will let you use a microsd in those Amazon adapters instead of
Sony's special sauce bullshit cards.

Really the Vita's biggest problem is how price gouged they currently are used, the bastards. At least a psp 1000 is still $30, then all you need is one of those microsd adapters and you're in business.
