Music and level design was always comfy. The level itself was definitely not.

So, this probably describes my favorite genre of gaming. I absolutely love difficult platformers like Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts and ActRaiser 2. To me at least, the difficulty level makes the game feel that much rewarding when I actually manage to complete it. I admit I don't consider myself so skilled as to be able to perform speedruns of these games, and in fact it sometimes takes me months of practice to get food enough just to beat them. That keeps me invested in them on a long-term basis, though.

Since I kind of missed out on the SNES era, I'm wondering if there are any other "platform hell" games out there that I might have overlooked. I'd love to find some GnG clones or something along those lines.

I know about Mega Man, but that series has never interested me. I think the setting has something to do with it. For instance, I really enjoyed Gargoyle's Quest, even knowing it's more or less a clone of Mega Man's game engine.
