Street Fighter 2: World Warrior was already good, but over time they kept refining and adding to the game that it has become a great game. It is better now than it was back in the early 90s.

It was released before the RAM carts were available, so it is understandable why it is not a feature of the release. As a consolation, if you play a mirror match, like Zangief vs. Zangief, on the Saturn version you gain back the missing animation frames and since I don't have a trained ear, maybe the sound is improved too.

Yeah, I remember I had to wait for the Saturn version as it came out after the Dreamcast version. I chose the Saturn version because I preferred the Saturn controllers and the Saturn was still one of my most beloved systems, even preferring it over the new Dreamcast as I did not think it was done yet by the time the DC released. Pretty glad I got Z3 as I like the pixel hitsparks more than the polygon ones, but that's just personal preference. I forgot Pocket Fighter also uses the 4MB cart.

It probably is, but it is probably out of my means now. The Titan arcade cab was the reason I got Soukyugurentai, since I really loved it in my local arcade and thought it was beautiful. That same arcade hardware was one of the reasons I was willing to blind-purchase Radiant Silvergun on preorder (worth $55USD to me at the time, but now just 1200MSP) and get Dynamite Deka/Die Hard Arcade. I wish I had the room to support that beautiful black cabinet of my memories.

I would go further to say that I hate Ryu. Him and his ilk like Ken and Gouki invokes strong hatred in me. The series was given to these fuckers, where they have all the advantages and moves, and me with so little that I have to work over 3 times as hard just to accomplish what is effortless to the most untalented basic Ryu/Ken/Gouki player. Know that I take immense joy in seeing every Ryu/Ken/Gouki player defeated because they were borne into privilege without knowing what suffering is as I with mid-tier characters. Notice the disparity between my options and that of a shoto:

It's not a glitch. Ever since the original Street Fighter 2 World Warrior, a player can charge at that time. In the Super Nintendo Alpha 2, the loading pause prior to the announcer saying "fight" nullifies the charge.

Take for instance Ryu/Ken/Gouki vs. Nash/Guile: when the announcer yells "fight" Ryu/Ken/Gouki has all their moves available, while Nash/Guile is left without their only 2 special attacks. So, for instance, if the already top tier shotos throw a fireball to start, Nash/Guile has only guard or vertical jump as the best options. The Ryu/Ken/Gouki player will always have first move advantage in the SNES version, gaining position, meter, and possibly a life advantage. While in all other versions, the instant sonic boom will cancel out the hadouken and Nash/Guile will recover first to make Ryu/Ken/Gouki eat a heavy backfist or lunging heavy kick and at best maybe trade with a light attack. In the non-SNES Alpha 2 it is fair because there are options to both players.

Ryu/Ken/Gouki are already top tier in Alpha2, they don't need any new advantages. That is why Alpha2Gold is received so poorly and players tend to flock to the original Alpha2: Capcom buffed the top tier and nerfed everyone else.

They tricked me into getting it back when my primary system was the Saturn. At the time, they only announced it was going to the PS1. On top of the exciting news that they were adding a whole bunch of characters that were not in the arcade like Fei Long, Dee Jay, and T.Hawk. The reviews at the time continually praised the PS1 version for doing the game well with its limited capabilities. After the release, they announced it was going to Dreamcast and Saturn, which of course I had to get it for my preferred system. Not like I could get rid of the PS1 version now as it is worthless, but I guess it is a technical showpiece for the system.

Alpha 2 for playing competitively. Alpha 3 for cooperatively in its expanded Dramatic Battle mode. Try not to think of it in terms of being better, but rather different. A3 has great character variety while A2 is just overall feels great to play, sort of like the flow of the original SF2 games.

I like the large roster of Z3/A3, but I prefer the play mechanics of base Z2/A2 (not Z2A/A2G). To me, A1 felt a lot like it was just using What they practiced on Vampire/Darkstalkers and being that, A2 felt more like what I was used to in the original SSF2X line of games. The flow of moves and combos are better to me. It is just personal preference, but I guess I am nostalgic for it as it is real easy to pick up and get good at.

Opposed to Z3/A3 which has what feels to me a bit of jank with all the pauses after hits/recovery like a Samurai Shodown game. The huge roster has a lot of garbage which don't add much to the experience like X-ism (only practical use I can think of X-ism for is to give Chun a 0.5% lesser chance to still lose to an experienced Zangief player, otherwise it is pointless).

>>6413685
The only broken A2 custom combo I can sometimes do is Rolento's. However that requires a full 3 levels to 100% (but 60% from just 1 level is damn good too). It is the only scarry one I have faced. At least in A2, you have to build all your meters, while in A3 everyone just starts off with all 3 and can build another. A2 custom/orginal combos are quick, while A3's V-ism can last quite a while.

Admittedly, I am not as good in A3, as I prefer Z/A-ism. The only V-ism I can do is Nash's sumersault to step-forward kick repeat, so I am no expert at the game but it still lacks a "flow" to the attacks.

I still do, it's one of my most favorite games. In ST, I like using all the characters except Zangief, T.Hawk, Fei Long, and sadly only in ST I cannot play as Cammy well despite her appeal to me. Started as a Guile player but as time goes on with newer games, Dictartor fits my personality the most, however in ST I think I do best with Boxer.

What's your favourite /vr/ fighting game?
Don't exactly have one in particular. I like almost all of them, except MK and Tekken. Probably worked on my SFA2 game the most since I hung out in GGPO there for a while. Also countless hours on CVS2, MVC2, and SSF2X. SNK and Arc System Works games are amazing to me, but I also really like those odd ones like the Asuka, V.G., Gotetuzi Itizoku, and various anime Super Famicom fighting games.

Do you still play it today?
I would like to, but my work tires me out and my days off are dedicated to cleaning and getting things ready to go back to work. By now with the ravages of time, my reaction times and agility with the controllers may have diminished significantly.

Any fond arcade memories?
Tons. I remember making it far in a well publicized fighting game tournament in my youth. I regret not taking bets on my play. There was a time when there were test locations for some fighting games before they were rolled out to the rest of the world/country for some fighting games, and we all had to try the newest greatest fighting games. I remember the #capcom IRC channel and SRK.com didn't believe me when a mall arcade had MVC2 set up before its supposed "US debut" at SHGL in California just because it was California, but 'lo we were unlocking different characters and had proof, even remembered telling the mall arcade operators the wrong thing ni how to set up the buttons, cus neither of us knew at the time (was it 123 across, but in the game the magic series is 1425). It was an amazing time back then for arcades and fighting games, watching combo videos to J-pop/J-rock of the day. Exciting great new games. Great friends to share in the experience.

It was one of the later Saturn games released. It was released after the Dreamcast version, but I preordered the Saturn version because I preferred the Sega Saturn pad over the stock Dreamcast pad for Capcom fighting games. The Saturn version of Zero 3 unlike most the other ports on other consoles were the hitsparks were sprites like the arcade version opposed to polygon hitsparks. The Saturn version also included the Playstation additional characters like T.Hawk and Fei Long, but not the ones in the later released PSP and GBA ports like Ingrid and Yun. It also has the single player modes not featured in the arcade the Playstation version had (minus the Pocketstation and VMU minigame), but my favorite is the Dramatic Battle modes which were variations of 2 vs.1 fights.

Favorite is a toss up between Super Turbo, Alpha 2, CVS2, and MVC2.

I tend to main charge characters and/or evil characters in the mid-tier range.
ST = Boxer, Claw, Guile
A2 = Dictator, Nash/Charlie, Rolento
CVS2 = Blanka, Sagat, Dictator
3S = Ken, Elena

>>4896970
You have already gotten me mad. I have so few answers for top tier shotos and all their advantages and options with my mid-tier characters.

>>4900554
I can't bring myself to like that edition of the game, because it buffs the top tier and nerfs everyone else. It is all Ken/Ryu all day, and it forced me to play Ken and my Rolento is okay, but everyone else is pointless to play for me.

Street Fighter Alpha 2 followed by Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. They feel great, and I think I prefer Alpha 2 from all the lumps I have taken to eventually becoming a midcard-er and gaining respect/fear from online Portuguese-speaking players. https://youtu.be/DpY-8govQCA

>>4801915
Ha, stealth not /vr/ post, good stuff.

>>4801927
I think 2 felt a lot like Super Turbo, while 3 felt weird. Alpha 3's hit pauses/recovery felt a lot like Samurai Shodown games. Alpha 3 also felt like it had a lot of filler unnecessary components, like a lot of non-viable options and characters like most characters are pointless in X-ism. I don't think anyone would voluntarily choose Alpha 3 T.Hawk, while in Alpha 2 (plain, not gold) I have found the whole cast to be fun and/or viable. Also there are the funkyness of Alpha 3 juggles which leads to those guardbreak to unending combos.

>>4811321
That's a shame. I noticed everyone was using a PS4 for that video, is it better on Xbox One where they don't have a touchpad? I'm guessing they'll patch these problems by the time I get an Xbox One or PS4.

>>4811650
That was hilarious. I also enjoyed "remember how arcade perfect it was: you get a black screen after you put your quarters in" ... yup, as I remembered.

Back then I thought they cheapened out a bit going to a cel-animated look from the SF2 line of games that I loved (but they were trending towards that with certain frames of the new moves like how Edmond Honda's oicho throw not matching up to the pixel art style, maybe a different spriter artist). However, I loved the Street Fighter Movie and I see where it got its influences, like that special Sagat stage with the grass, or the dramatic battles (which were so much fun to show off at the arcade). Having Vega/M.Bison (my main) beat the living shit out of Ken/Ryu (my hated foes) to T.K.'s "Itosisato Setunasato Kokoro Tuyasato" brings a smile to my face.

Of the Alpha/Zero series, I preferred regular 2 the most. It felt the best, and Capcom was not good at balancing back then and buffed the top tier, nerfed everyone else for Alpha 2 Gold/Zero 2 Alpha. However, Alpha 2 Gold/Zero 2 Alpha did add in those messed up kattobi cancels which are amusing but further breaking the game. While 2 felt like a true successor to the Super Turbo/X that I loved, 3 felt like too much a departure to the series, and 1 felt like a proof of concept after the testing grounds of the Vampire/Darkstalker series.

My favorite Street Fighter game is a toss-up between Super Street Fighter 2X, Street Fighter Zero 2, and Capcom Vs. SNK 2. Played them the most as they feel most natural to me.

I main charge characters or evil characters, as it fits my personality. Dictator, Rolento, Nash, Guile, Sagat, Blanka, Boxer, etc. work best. However, my favorite characters are Cammy, Sakura, Juni, Karin, Elena, Ibuki, Makoto, and Juri for reasons.

I do not dislike Alpha 3, I just prefer Alpha 2 (base). Alpha 2 feels more like the SSF2T that I had so much fun with in the arcades. I naturally found my mains, and played the game well. Alpha 3, however, felt a bit strange, almost like Samurai Shodown with all the pauses from hits, but it is still a fun game. I like the large cast in Alpha 3. I did find it strange that Capcom ported Alpha 3 so much but completely ignored Alpha 2.

>>4327343
Dramatic Battle mode was very fun with a friend. All sorts of silliness that the computer cannot get out of from our play, like we'd air throw into the other player to air-throw the computer back to get air-thrown.

>>4328175
Zero 2 Alpha, or Alpha 2 Gold I feel made some poor changes that made it less fun for me. Since I main mid-tier characters in plain Alpha 2, I got fucked as that game buffed the top tier and nerfed everyone else. Maybe it is my bias, but I tried to like it, best thing I can say about Zero 2 Alpha (Alpha 2 Gold) is it added all new glitches with kattobi cancels that propel you quickly forward for doing a normal move into a Custom/Original Combo.

>>4328734
This.

>>4330161
Nash. The only V-ism combo I can perform well: summersault -> advancing knee -> repeat from summersault ... once that runs out, when they are in the corner, duck, then jump and hit them with whatever when you see their falling animation where their head is about to be below their body. Any other character requires too much execution for me, as all that requires like 1 button only. If not serious, then I play random, and I hope I get A/Z-ism.
Since I am so hated on /vr/, here, have fun watching me get destroyed
