I'd hesitate to call it "great", but I actually liked the Mario Bros movie. I thought it was an interesting interpretation and had enough nods to the source material.

It's funny that everyone hated it, but reinterpreting characters from "kiddy" series as dark and gritty is all the rage now. It would probably have done better if it were released today.
